IITB – International Immunology Training Program Bonn

The International Training Program Bonn (IITB) is a structured 3-year PhD program in conjunction with the ImmunoSensation Cluster/ Bonn. The ImmunoSensation Cluster is an initiative of excellence funded by the The German Research Foundation (DFG). The Cluster is a joint collaborative project of outstanding institutions, and combines the know-how and expertise of the Medical Faculty and the Faculty of Mathematics and Sciences (Life & Medical Sciences Institute and Institute of Applied Mathematics), the Max-Planck-associated Institute caesar (Center of Advanced European Studies) and the DZNE (German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases) of the Helmholtz-Society.

The IITB would like to recruit outstanding, research-oriented students for our structured PhD program. We offer first-class training in biological and medical science and state-of-the-art research facilities. Our research groups belong to some of the most renowned in their fields, and the IITB provides students with the unique opportunity to take part in outstanding interdisciplinary research.

IITB students will participate in a 3-year experimental research project in the field of life and medical sciences in one of member groups of the ImmunoSensation Cluster of Excellence. In addition, students will be enrolled in a structured course of study including:

  • seminar series
  • meet-the-expert events
  • scientific method courses
  • scientific soft skills training
  • participation in international conferences
  • short-term fellowships
  • Winter School on Innate Immunity and other retreats
  • a mentoring program
  • visits to biotech companies
  • career counseling

The new ImmunoSensation graduate program is integrated via the LIMES-IGS into the Bonn International Graduate School (BIGS) system, a certified framework for Graduate Schools at the University of Bonn. Our students receive a full scholarship for the duration of the program. All communication and courses are conducted in English.
