• Students have to hold a Master (or Bachelor of Honors), diploma in life sciences, or medical degree (2nd State Examination, MBBS) with at least 6 months of molecular research experience. A master’s thesis or thesis can qualify as independent molecular research experience. (Dr. med. theses are only applicable if they are the result of a project involving experimental laboratory science.)
  • Clarification of the formal equivalence of degrees has to be completed before application. The documents of applicants from China will be checked by the International Office, an APS certificate (“Akademische Prüfstelle” [Academic Certification Unit]) may be required. Applicants from Mongolia and Vietnam are required to apply for an APS certificate. Documents must be submitted to the “Akademische Prüfstelle” (APS, Academic Certification Unit) of the German Embassy in Beijing, Ulan Bator or Hanoi, respectively.

How to apply

Application for the IITB is possible once a year. If you decide to apply for the IITB graduate program, you will need to submit the following documents and information:

  • Fully completed application form
  • Curriculum vitae (CV)/resume (including a photo)
  • Letter of motivation (personal statement describing why you are interested in the IITB participation including your personal scientific career goals)
  • Two letters of reference from your supervisors. Please forward this form directly to your referees and ask them to e-mail or fax it DIRECTLY to the ImmunoSensation Cluster Coordination Office.
  • Certified transcripts of records from your Bachelor´s and Master‘s studies (certified copies in English or German)
  • Certified Copies in English or German of your Bachelor´s and Master´s certificates or 2nd State Examination Certificates. (Please inform yourself about the formal equivalence of your degree, see also the special regulations for applicants from China, Mongolia and Vietnam)
  • If available, English language skills certificate (i.e. TOEFL)

Selection criteria

The selection process is based on the formal requirements, academic qualification, motivation, previous achievements (marks, research) and the supplied references. Students will be invited for an interview including an oral presentation on their research interests. The performance at the interview will be also integrated into the selection process. Students with previous experience in research fields relevant to the work of the ImmunoSensation Cluster will be given preference in the application process.
