For application in the IRTG 2168 program, please see bomerang.iei-bonn.de/bomerang.html, the application procedure for BIGS positions is described below. All PhD students in these programs will become members of BIGS Immunosciences and Infection.
Members of the BIGS Immunosciences and Infection are recruited in a transparent and internationally advertised process which is specified in the BIGS bylaws. The teaching language is English and, thus, very good proficiency in written and spoken English is required. BIGS Immunosciences and Infection members need to enroll at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences or the Faculty of Medicine. For further information of the enrollment procedure, please contact the respective graduate office directly.
Application for open PhD positions within the Cluster
At least once per year the Cluster publishes its open PhD positions. Applicants should send their application including motivation letter, CV, scanned academic degrees, list of publications and the contact details of two references (you can find further information at open positions).
If you are offered one of the PhD positions, admission to the BIGS program will be granted after registration as PhD student at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences or the Faculty of Medicine.
The selection process is divided into three steps: The first selection round is based on the formal requirements, academic qualification, motivation and previous achievements (grades, research). For the next round you will be invited to have an interview by video chat with PIs in whose labs positions are available. The performance at the interview will be integrated into the selection for the last step, a symposium. The symposium will include poster presentations by the applicants, lab visits and interviews with the selection committee.
