Congratulations to Anna-Maria Herzner, who was awarded the Paula Pitha Award to Best Abstracts on Interferon Research at the TOLL2015 Conference (http://www.toll2015.org), which took place in Marbeilla, Spain, September 30 - October 3, 2015. More than 400 Abstracts had been submitted.

Paula Pitha-Rowe, born in 1937 in Prague, Professor of Oncology, Molecular Biology and Genetics at the Johns Hopkins University Department of Biology and the School of Medicine, passed away March 5, 2015, in Baltimore, Maryland. Paula was an internationally renowned scientist whose pioneering research helped define the biology of the interferon family.
Paula Pitha-Rowe has been working in the field of the innate immune response, and took part in the discovery and characterisation of the interferon-alpha genes themselves as well as the members of the IRF family, essential transcription factors for the induction of alpha- and beta-interferons and thereby antiviral immune defense.
