Our research focus is on periodontal immunology. Our team is involved in basic research as much as in clinical studies on immunologically mediated pathologies in the context of cellular mechanotransduction. In our recent works we investigated the immunological mechanisms governing peridontal regeneration versus autodestruction upon orthodontic tooth movement. A major goal of the Konermann Lab is to translate the molecular understanding of these processes in the periodontium into the development of clinical strategies for the prevention of immune-induced pathologies.
