4th International School on Advanced Immunology

Outstanding junior researchers in immunology from all over the world gathered in Maria Laach, Germany, this September. The monastery was the venue of the 4^thImmunoSensation²–IFReC International School on Advanced Immunology. The series was successfully launched in 2022 in Japan as a joint endeavor of the Bonn Cluster of Excellence ImmunoSensation²and our partner IFReC in Osaka, Japan. It is held annually, alternating between Germany and Japan, connecting the next generation of interdisciplinary immunologists and offering a new educational opportunity for outstanding PhD students and junior postdocs.

Immunology is evolving at a remarkable pace, transforming the landscape of modern medicine and public health. A key scientific challenge in this transformation is immunodiversity, the broad spectrum of immunology shaped by genetic, epigenetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors, as well as aging. This year's International School on Advanced Immunology aimed to support these efforts by bringing together leading experts and promising young scientists in the field to foster strong research networks and address the scientific challenges ahead. A selection of 47 international doctoral students and early-career scientists from over 20 different countries gathered in Maria Laach to exchange ideas with 15 world-leading immunologists.

University of Bonn’s StadtLandMitmachbus makes a stop in Adenau

20 Aug 2026 —What will the medicine of the future look like? The Science Year 2026, launched by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), is exploring answers to this question. With funding from the Science Year, the University of Bonn is currently touring rural regions in the Rhineland with its “StadtLandMitmachbus” science bus. On Sunday, August 30, 2026, from 12 noon to 5 p.m., the mobile science centre will stop at the Heimatfest in Adenau, as part of the town’s open Sunday shopping event. The bus will be located at Marktplatz, Hauptstraße, 53518 Adenau.

University of Bonn Exhibit at MS Wissenschaft Parliamentary Reception

18 May 2026 —MS Wissenschaft is back on tour through Germany, Austria, and Poland. At the parliamentary reception aboard MS Wissenschaft on May 7 in Berlin, the University of Bonn, a University of Excellence, presented its exhibit to leading representatives from politics, science, and society. The Federal Ministry for Research, Transfer and Space (BMFTR) and the organizer, Science in Dialogue, selected Bonn’s exhibit as one of only three out of the roughly 30 exhibits aboard the exhibition ship for the evening event.

“Transparent by nature” network meeting a complete success

9 Apr 2025 —In order to communicate the importance of animal research transparently and promote an open exchange, Bonn research institutions joined forces to facilitate the exchange of all those who work with laboratory animals. The University of Bonn, together with other research institutions in Bonn, invited everyone who works with laboratory animals to the first network meeting “Transparent by Nature” in the Poppelsdorf Auditorium Center. The aim of the event was to create a forum that strengthens the exchange of information on transparency in animal research and networking.
