Niklas Klümper Receives Johann-Georg-Zimmermann Prize

PD Dr. Niklas Klümper, Senior Physician in the Department of Urology at the University Hospital Bonn, was honored with the prestigious Johann-Georg-Zimmermann Research Prize on June 5, 2025. The €10,000 award is presented annually to young cancer researchers for their current scientific contributions. This year, it was jointly awarded to PD Dr. Niklas Klümper and Prof. Dr. Elisabeth Hessmann from Göttingen.

Dr. Klümper leads a translational research group at the interface of urology and experimental oncology and is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) through the ACCENT program. His research aims to advance precision oncology by developing personalized therapies based on molecular markers. His award-winning work on NECTIN4 amplifications has already led to the initiation of several Phase II clinical trials with fast-track approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)—a remarkable testament to the clinical relevance of his research.

His primary focus is in uro-oncology, particularly on the prediction and personalization of targeted therapies.

The official award ceremony took place at Hannover Medical School (MHH), where the prize was presented by MHH President Prof. Dr. Denise Hilfiker-Kleiner.
